Mr. Knowhow: story and time line

Founding and early years
At the end of the Nineties Wim Ratering (guitars) and Arno Wegman (drums) met each other at school. Around the year 2000 they started to play music together. First they mostly played music from their favourite bands and musicians but later the also started to experiment with writing original songs. In 2006 Wim and Arno for the first time played a live show under the name of Mr. Knowhow at the contest ‘Nationaal Sing Your Own Songfestival Nootuitgang’. For that show a band name was needed, that they picked by browsing through a dictionary. In the beginning there wasn’t a permanent band but after some different musical projects Wim and Arno formed a new band under the name of Mr. Knowhow together with Marck Kuiken (bass). Wendy Bruyn joined them as singer.

Out In The Open (2008-2010)
With a lot of musical ideas they started writing songs and forming a repertoire. After a try out show the band started playing more live shows. In between the live shows the band was working on new songs. In 2008 four original songs were recorded in home studios. In the beginning of 2009 the band released their first EP – Out In The Open – consisting of the four new recorded songs. The release of Out In The Open was celebrated with two special shows from which one was a live performance on the local TV- en radio station RTV Noord. At the end of 2009 Wendy left the band. After a short search the band introduced Hanny Wolvekamp as their new front woman. Also Marck wasn’t able to combine his work with the band and was replaced by Jeroen Buse on bass in the beginning of 2010. One of the songs on Out In The Open – Remember – was re-released on the compilation album Riot On Sunset volume 20 by the American label 272 Records. In the second half of 2010 the band also started to play live shows again. In between the live shows the band worked on new music. At the end of 2010 the band entered the studio for new recordings.

A Noise Revolution (2011-2013)
In February of 2011 Mr. Knowhow released their second EP titled A Noise Revolution, with four new songs which were recorded in December of 2010. The EP was presented in April 2011 in the crowded venue ’t Pierement in Sappemeer (NL). The EP was received well and was broadcasted often on local radio stations. Also the band played their first live show in Germany. At the end of 2011 the band stopped playing gigs with Jeroen being absent due to private circumstances. In 2012 Phil Russell played some gigs with Mr. Knowhow as stand in bass player. After a silent period the band announced at the end of 2012 that Jeroen will not return to Mr. Knowhow so Phil took over his place as bass player definitely. During the year of 2013 the band returned to the stage regularly and also started with new writing sessions for new music.

Mk III Analog (2014-2017)
After a period of writing, arranging and pre production the band started recording new music in the studio early 2014. In the studio five new songs were recorded. To remain the typical energetic live feeling of Mr. Knowhow on the record the songs were recorded analog and mostly in a live setting. In May of 2014 the new songs were released on the EP Mk III Analog. The new EP was presented during a special radio broadcast on Omroep Odrie and at a live show at the venue Punt 1 in Leek (NL). Mk III Analog was picked up by several radio stations and the music was broadcasted often (airplay but also live sets during the broadcasts). The song Sweet Mama made it even into the Indie Chart.

To remain the full sound of Mk III Analog live on stage Wim Huizenga joined the band at the end of 2015 as an extra guitarist. After a period of five years Phil decided to seek his musical challenges somewhere else and in another genre. With two special live shows the fans and band said goodbey to Phil at the beginning of 2017. Shortly after that the band announced that Marck Kuiken took Phils place as bass player. After seven years Marck returned to Mr. Knowhow. In the new formation allready some live shows were played.
